Last Trauma Call

Things one needs to be a SURVIVOR
of an Orthopedic Surgery Trauma rotation:
1. Positive Attitude
2. Easy Going Personality
3. Excellent Hand Skills
4. Incredible Bedside Manner
5. Tons & Tons of Knowledge
6. Patience, Patience, & More Patience
7. Very Supportive Family & Friends
8. Never Ending Supply of Diet Dr. Pepper

I got up with Greg this morning to wish him well on his last day of trauma call as a resident. What a great feeling to have this part of our long journey behind us. He always anticipates and enjoys his time on the trauma rotation. He gets to experience incredible (most of which I would consider stomach turning) things. He sees and cares for all different kinds of people, takes care of incredible injuries, puts all he has learned into action, while making split second decisions under tons of pressure. He has said before he loves the excitement and even some of the stress that comes along with his responsibility as the Ortho Trauma Chief Resident. He said it keeps him on his toes and always thinking and learning. While he is always excited to care for the trauma patients he is VERY excited (as am I) when the 2 months of the rotation are over. In the last year (since May 2005) Greg has been on trauma for 6 of the 12 months. Needless to say he is exhausted, both physically and mentally. You probably would never realize this because, as most of you know, Greg doesn't fluster easily and isn't a complainer. He rolls with the punches and balances his very demanding work life with being a wonderful husband and dad. Congrats Babe. You SURVIVED your last trauma rotation!

Just Feedin' the Ducks in Boerne

Maci lovin' feedin' the ducks. She is definately our animal lover!
Daddy & his girls.
Mackenzi feeding the "Swan". It was just a big white duck!
Daddy & Mommy just Posin' for the camera
Our littlest cutie, Maryn. She just kept saying ducky,
ducky, ducky over and over. But wouldn't get too close.

Last Saturday we drove out to Boerne to go to some of the little shops they have and to just look around. Boerne is a small town about thirty minutes West on I-10. It would be a great place to live if we stayed in San Antonio, but that probably won't happen. We brought along some bread so we could stop and feed the ducks at the river running through town. Then we had dinner at El Chapparel, of course its a Mexican restaurant. We seem to never get enough of it.

Texas Bluebonnets

We have taken pictures in the bluebonnets every year since Mackenzi was born. We were a little worried that our tradition wouldn't happen this year since the bluebonnets around San Antonio were practically non-existent. There hadn't been significant rainfall here since September.
After going back to Beaumont over Easter weekend we stopped along
I-10 between Houston and San Antonio to snap a few pictures. Since this was our only opportunity, we did the unthinkable, we woke Maryn up after she had only been asleep about twenty minutes. Needless to say she wasn't very happy. The first few pictures we took she wasn't in because she was SCREAMING! Finally after letting her have half of my Diet Dr.Pepper (a big no-no-usually) she was willing to give it a try. They are not our best pictures by any means but at least we have them to add to our scrapbooks. We have yet to convince the girls that being itchy isn't all bad if it is a for a short time. They always cry and complain about how ridiculous they think the bluebonnet pictures are, but don't realize I am not giving in until we have at least ten decent pictures. I'm not as bad of a mom as it sounds, I promise. Okay maybe I am. As you can see in the pictures we even had a wardrobe change half way through the photoshoot!! I hope the girls are able to forgive me for the misery I put them through year after year. Hopefully they will cherish the photos we have taken over the years once they are older.

Two Call Of Trauma To Go!!

Only two call nights left on trauma!
Greg is almost finished with his last trauma rotation as a resident. We all couldn't be happier, especially him. He is way overdue for a little break. Greg is a wonderful husband, father, son, brother, friend, and doctor. We are so blessed to be able to call him OURS! The girls love going to visit him at HIS hospital and even love the cafeteria food. Here are a few pictures of our latest visit to see him doing what he loves to do (take care of others).
